The southern French city of Avignon has become the cynosure of international eyes with the verdicts expected today in a mass rape trial. Surrounded by immense media coverage, the French court took exceptional measures to make adjustments for the unprecedented number of journalists reporting the event.
Record Media Presence
A total of 180 journalists have registered to report on the trial, including 86 representatives from international outlets. In a statement, the court emphasized its commitment to ensuring optimal conditions for national and international media to cover the trial.
To handle this pressure of media scrutiny, the court has prepared four transmission rooms within the premises. These rooms will facilitate the reporters to monitor the proceedings in real time when the verdicts are pronounced.
Security Measures Intensified
For the sake of order and safety, the court has instituted new security measures. A police presence has been greatly increased, supplemented by an additional private security company. The area around the court will be roped off to control access and prevent any disruptions.
