India in Driver's Seat on Day 2 of First Test Against Bangladesh

India News. An outstanding bowling performance headlined by Jasprit Bumrah's return of 4-50 helped India bundle out Bangladesh for just 149 and take a commanding first-innings lead of 227 runs to set the platform for victory in the first Test on Day 2.

India, resuming at an overnight score of 376, took just the early part of the morning session to bowl out for 376 with a scintillating 113 from Ravichandran Ashwin. However, despite the loss of early wickets in their second innings, India opted not to enforce the follow-on and finished the day at 81-3, extending the lead to 308 runs. Shubman Gill stood not out on 33, wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant not out on 12.

A Day of Dominance for Indian Bowlers

Seventeen wickets tumbled on a day that especially belonged to India's bowlers, who showed relentless aggression and precision. Bumrah, particularly, ensured that the visitors were bundled out early in the third session, especially against Bangladesh's lower-middle order. Among other significant contributors for India were pacers Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep, who accounted for 2-30 and 2-19, respectively.

Bangladesh never got going, falling to 26-3 at lunch. Captain Shakib Al Hasan fought a lone battle with a top score of 32 but could not help the regular fall of wickets. After lunch, India continued to apply pressure as Siraj removed Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto for 20. Bumrah followed it up by removing experienced Mushfiqur Rahim for just 8 to leave Bangladesh reeling at 40-5 after 12.5 overs.

A Flicker of Resistance

Bangladesh finally found some solace in the company of Shakib and Litton Das, who shared 51 runs. Litton Das made 22 off 42 balls with three boundaries, but by then it was too late to salvage the innings. The Bangladesh tail did not last long as they folded for 149, way below India's total score.

India's Tactical Approach

This decision not to enforce the follow-on by India has given the visiting team's batsmen a chance to further increase the lead. That should settle things pretty well in their favor for a comfortable victory with the good first-innings lead of 227 runs. The unfinished partnership between Gill and Pant strengthened India's grip on the match, with more than two days of play remaining.

Ahead of the Game

A lead of 308 now places India in a good position going into Day 3, with enough time to forge a win. For Bangladesh, it is an uphill battle, and deep inner resolve will be needed if they are to avoid defeat.

Bumrah's spell was the brightest spell of the day, and considering the rest of the bowlers, the attacking disco of India is working all in its direction as India looks all set to carry forward their supremacy and seal the test by a win.
