The big Republican shindig, the RNC, has started in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but with a dark shadow over it. Someone tried to kill Donald Trump at a rally in PA, so things are pretty tense. But get this, both Joe Biden and Donald Trump are now asking for everyone to get along. Crazy, right?
Let's All Hold Hands
On Sunday, Biden talked from his big house, the White House, about everyone being buddy-buddy. And guess what? Trump said the same thing in an interview with some newspaper, The Washington Examiner. He was supposed to give a speech at the RNC that would've been a real zinger, but he switched gears to talk about bringing the country together. "The speech I had ready for Thursday was gonna be a show-stopper," he said. "But now, it's gonna be a whole new ballgame."
Thankful to Be Alive
Trump's pretty stoked he didn't get killed. He told The New York Post, "Some folks say it's luck, some say it's the big guy upstairs, but I shouldn't be here. The doctor said it was like nothing he's ever seen before. It's a miracle, really."
He had a rough speech all lined up to bash the people in charge right now, but he tossed that out and decided to go for a 'let's all hug it out' kind of deal instead. "I wanna do my part to get us all on the same page," he said. "But let's be real, people are super divided."
What People Are Saying
Tucker Carlson, who used to be a big cheese at Fox News, thinks Trump's really trying to be Mr. Nice Guy. He told some website called Axios, "Getting shot at can really change a person." Despite someone trying to off him, Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, that he's not changing his schedule. "I'm not letting some nut with a gun mess up my plans," he wrote.
The Party Plan
Because of the scary stuff with Trump, the RNC's bosses are telling everyone to stick to their scripts. They don't want a hundred people up there talking about the same thing. Some guy named Matt Brooks from the Republican Jewish Coalition talked to NBC News and said they're just playing it cool.
Will He Stay Nice?
Trump's playing peacekeeper now, but who knows if it'll last. His pals and other Republicans are using this to tell everyone to be nice to him, but we'll see if he keeps it up or goes back to his usual self. It's like watching a reality show, but with way more at stake.
