It Rained So Much, the Bridge Just Couldn't Handle It

A super sad thing happened in northern China where a bridge totally gave out because of some seriously heavy rain. This was on a Friday night around 8:40 pm, and it's a pretty big deal because 11 people didn't make it out alive, and more than 30 are still nowhere to be found. It went down in a place called Shangluo in Shaanxi province.

What Went Down

So, this bridge that goes over a river in Shangluo couldn't handle the crazy rain and flash floods and just collapsed. It's like it had too much on its plate, you know? And because of that, about 20 vehicles went into the river with a bunch of people inside. The news says that when they found 11 people who didn't survive, they were all in five of those cars that went in the water.

More Bad Weather Stuff

This isn't the only problem China's had with the weather lately. A lot of the north and central parts of the country have been dealing with floods because it's been raining like crazy since Tuesday. In another part of Shaanxi called Baoji, five people lost their lives and eight are still missing because of floods and mudslides caused by all that rain.

You see it on the news, right? Neighborhoods are underwater, and people are trying to clean up the mess with big machines. And it's not just Shaanxi. Places like Gansu and Henan in central China are also getting hit hard by rain. In Nanyang, a city in Henan, they got so much rain at the start of the week, it's like the whole year's worth came down at once.

What's Going On with the Weather?

This whole summer in China has been nuts with the weather. They've had a ton of rain in some places and really hot heat waves in others. Scientists are saying that this kind of wild weather is happening more often because of climate change, and it's all linked to the gases we're putting into the air.

Remember that scary highway in southern China that got washed out by rain in May? That was bad too - 48 people died there. And just earlier this month,
