Africa's Richest Guy Can't Travel Easy, and It's No Surprise

Dude, you gotta feel for Aliko Dangote. The richest person in Africa, he's got billions in the bank and a big business empire. But when it comes to traveling around the continent he's got more paperwork than a federal agent on a drug bust. Dangote says he needs 35 different visas just to hop from one African country to the next, compared to how easy it is for Europeans. And that's not even counting the whole stool sample thing that travel filmmaker Tayo Aina had to go through when he landed in Ethiopia. Dude was detained at the airport, too, just because he had a Nigerian passport.

It's not right, man. We're talking about one of the richest dudes in Africa, here, and he's got more visa problems than a soap opera star. It's no wonder the African Continental Free Trade Area is having a tough time taking off when the people who want to make it great can't even get from Point A to Point B without a huge hassle.

Hopefully, somebody in charge is listening. Until then, Aliko Dangote and the rest of us will just have to keep our passports close and our patience even closer.
